Welcome to the new website of the Brooklyn Bridge
Park. The Brooklyn Bridge Park Development
Corporation is working with a design team of
award-winning professionals as well as the local
community to create a world class waterfront park
along the East River.
When completed, this self-sustaining park will add
85 acres of much-needed open space for Brooklyn and
New York City residents. It will reconnect the
citizens of Brooklyn to their waterfront, replacing
abandoned piers, parking lots and storage sheds with
opportunities to play sports, stroll, or just lounge
at the water’s edge. And it will contribute to the
extraordinary revitalization of waterfront in the
New York Harbor, serving as a bridge from the
commercial uses of previous centuries to the
recreational uses of the future.
The boards of the Brooklyn Bridge Park Development
Corporation (BBPDC) and the Empire State Development
Corporation (ESDC) voted to certify the Draft
Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) and adopt the
General Project Plan (GPP) on July 22nd and 26th,
2005, respectively. This is a positive step in
turning the park proposal into reality, restoring
public access to the waterfront and creating the
first major new park in Brooklyn in 135 years. These
documents and information about the upcoming public
hearing can be found on this site.
We hope you will take the time to read about
Brooklyn Bridge Park and participate in its
creation.
Sincerely,
Wendy Leventer
